Early-Career Scientist Icebreaker

As a great opportunity to get to connect and get to know each other, the Icebreaker will take place before the official start of the conference on Sunday, 23.02.2025, at 17:00. As soon as a suitable location has been found, it will be announced here on the website. If you are interested, please fill out the following form to help us plan the Icebreaker.

Ice Breaker

The Ice Breaker will take place on Sunday, 23.02.2025 from 6 p.m. in the “Kumpels” restaurant (in the German Mining Museum: https://www.kumpels.de). Registered participants who have signed up for the Ice Breaker will receive their conference documents there.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony will take place on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in room 2a of the convention center.

Opening of the Company Exhibition

The company exhibition begins on Monday, February 24 following the opening ceremony (approx. 17:30). In our 30-minute “Company Slam”, the exhibiting companies will have the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves on a slide. Following the presentation, the exhibition will be opened with snacks and drinks.

Student Evening

The student evening will take place on Monday, 24 February 2025 and is organized by students in the Geosciences programme at RUB and supported by the DGG. To participate in the student evening, a separate registration is required for participation. The party will start at 19:00 in building IC, floor 03, room 149 (IC 03/149). Snacks and Drinks will be served.

Conference Dinner

The traditional DGG Conference Dinner will take place on Tuesday, 25.02.2025 from 19:00 (admission from 18:30) in the Kolpinghaus Höntrop, Wattenscheider Hellweg 76, 44869 Bochum. Drinks will be charged individually using personal consumption cards, including refunds of unused amounts. A consumption ticket worth €12 is included in the registration price; additional tickets can be purchased on the evening. Separate registration is required to attend the Conference Dinner.

You can get there by streetcar lines 305 and 310 from Bochum main station. The Kolpinghaus Höntrop is located just before the final stop Höntrop-Kirche. The journey time from the Ruhr-Universität is approx. 30 minutes (incl. change at the main station). Parking is available in the parking lot of Sparkasse Bochum at Westenfelder Straße 199.

Meet & Greet Breakfast for Female Scientists

The Meet & Greet breakfast for female scientists will take place for the ninth time this year. The aim of the event is to offer a platform for mutual exchange. Female students will have the opportunity to meet professionally advanced female geophysicists and get to know different career paths in a personal conversation. The breakfast will take place on Wednesday, 26.02.2025, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. in conference room 2 (above the conference room on the same level as the main entrance to the mensa). Separate registration is required for participation. The number of participants is limited to approx. 50 people.

Career Prospects Lunch Seminar

On Wednesday, 26.02.2025 from 13:00 - 14:00 the “Lunch-Seminar Career Perspectives” will take place in hall 4 of the conference center. Geophysicists will present examples of their careers in the field of geophysics and will be available to answer questions. Registration is required for participation. A contribution towards expenses of €5 is charged for participation.

General Assembly

The general assembly of the DGG will take place on Wednesday, 26.02.205, from 17:00 to 19:00 in hall 2a of the convention center. DGG members are requested to attend in large numbers. Guests are welcome.

Public Evening Lecture

The DGG's public evening lecture will take place on Wednesday, 26.02.2025, 20:00 - 21:00 at the Mining Museum. The topic is the implementation of the heat transition for the city of Bochum, in particular the use of mine water heat for Mark 51°7. Jochen Raube (Stadtwerke Bochum Holding GmbH) and Dimitra Teza (Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructure and Geothermal Energy IEG, Bochum) will report on “Geothermal heating and cooling supply at the Mark 51°7 site in Bochum”. Conference participants and guests are welcome. This lecture will be in German.

The German Mining Museum can be reached directly from Ruhr-Universität Bochum via the U35 line. The journey time is approx. 12 minutes.

Lunch’n Learn

A Lunch'n'Learn will take place on Thursday, 27.02.2025, from 13:00 - 14:00 in hall 4 of the conference center. The aim of this event with a keynote speech and lunch is to network young geoscientists in order to promote exchange on both a professional and personal level. Registration is required for participation. A contribution towards expenses of €5 will be charged for participation.

Meetings of the Working Groups and Committees

The working groups and committees of the DGG have the opportunity to meet during the annual conference. Seminar rooms will be made available for this purpose. Those responsible are requested to notify dgg2025@rub.de of their requirements by 24.01.2025, stating the date, the expected number of people and any technical equipment required.
